Live Media & Dance-Theatre Performance

tcTheatre is currently developing new dance-media-theatre projects incorporating the use of film, live feed projection and various other visual elements. These projects are created using a the interactive software program called Isadora. (See Troika Ranch)

We are interested in the intersection of live performance and media. We are questioning wow this challenges our audience and how new media can influence the develpment of new type performance experiences.

Media Production History

Look This Way - in continued development at Kean University, performance in 2010-11. See preview here.

Look This Way is a dance-theatre project that investigates how media can interact onstage with corporeal performers to create a live performance. The piece has developed over the past three years, with each new version expanding on two main questions: firstly, what is the relationship between the performer and the media? And secondly, what is the role of the spectator within this digital performance?

The piece investigates the challenges to and differences between the spectator’s attention on a 2D mediated image and a 3D corporeal performer. It also explores the notion of “liveness” and debates on “presence” suggesting that media/technology can be considered a character or player onstage alongside corporeal performers.

Coming & Going - created in collaboration with VOCI Dance. Presented at Orlando International Fringe Festival in May 2009. See video and more details here.

This piece is a fun play on technology, boredom and what happens when a group of people are left to their own accord! It involves projection design by Anna, exciting choreography created by Genevieve Bernard, Anna & dancers, along with original music by Kevin!
